the power of advertising

that time of year is upon us...the time when our mailboxes overflow with catalogs tempting us with this years holiday's must have gadgets. michael sends quite a bit of time circling a wish list of things in said catalogs.

yesterday, the hammacher schlemmer catalog arrived and inside was a voice activated R2-D2 robot.
this was one of the the many items that he NEEDS! we talked about how cool it was and how neat
it would be to have a robot that would listen and respond to your every command.
at a mere $190, we explained that this was something that santa wouldn't be bringing.
if indeed he did NEED it so much, he would have to save his money and buy it for himself.

after a few quiet minutes at the table, the following dialog ensued:

michael : "hey mom, i saw this commercial that says Save money. Live better."

mom: "oh really? that's an interesting idea." (i couldn't remember having seen such a commercial)

michael : "yeah, so i think i am going to save my money and live better with this r2-d2"
