sub-freezing temps are the mother of ingenuity

so, it's not news that we've been experiencing cold weather recently. my children love to play outside as much as possible. so, since going outside to swing, or ride bikes, or play baseball hasn't been an option of late, they've started a few new routines.

pretty much every night we have puzzle time. basically this consists of michael giving orders while molly, lee and i put the puzzle together. said puzzle is completed by michael putting in the last few pieces and declaring "WE DID IT!!!" i've been pretty impressed by molly's puzzle skills. for a 2.75 yr old, she's got it goin' on. ;-)

last night, after puzzle time they discovered the greatest toy on earth for many many generations: the laundry basket. while i was putting sam and clay to bed they were playing, pushing each other around in it, pretending it was a myriad of things. when i returned to the living room, this is what i found. years ago someone i used to work with said this, and i will quote her because the moment feels right: "i know everyone thinks their children are smart, but mine really are!" tee-hee-hee - - i kid.. i kid...

row row row your boat

finally, here is a picture of sissy friday before school. i was successful in convincing her to wear her sparkly hat, but gloves were out of the question. why, you ask? "because i have my hands in my pockets, MOOMM" well, duh!
