i hope you have the time of your life...

i love Green Day's song "Time of Your Life". when lee graduated from law school i had someone write the lyrics in calligraphy. something about the words moves me. i think it is such a great song for pivotal moments in life. so, on the morning after the first day of kindergarten, i really am hoping that mister has the time of his life.

school is a part of our lives to teach us the information that we will need to survive as productive adults in society. information that will help us get into college, tech school, or whatever it is that we need to navigate the path our life takes. school, however, is a also a place to learn life skills. "you know, like nunchaku skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills..."

i digress.

most importantly i think school allows us to learn a lot about the human race and our relationships with the myriad of people we will encounter throughout all ages and stages of life. we learn how to be loyal friends and how to tolerate bullies. we learn how to respect authority. we learn how to accept and embrace the things that make us different from others. we learn how to win gracefully and we learn how to lose. i believe that we are teaching michael all of these things at home, but there is great value in learning these things outside the home as well. value in seeing the things mom and dad have been saying put into practice.

with all of that said, i know this is just kindergarten. no balloon bouquets or unnecessary fanfare here. i'm proud of him. i can't believe that we've reached this point. i also can't believe i'm going to do this again three more times. and as green day says..."it's something unpredictable but in the end it's right. i hope you had the time of your life."

i love my mister.
